Recovered from a Near Death Experience

I remember way back during my childhood days when my Uncle was addicted into alcohol and drugs. He used to live in our house together with my grandmother. There are times when he ran out of money to buy his vices, he would grab some things inside our house and sell it. Even my toys are not exempted on it.

My grandmother and I are so ashamed of him since we received a lot of negative comments from neighbors and friends who knew him. Not only that, we are also worried about his health. A family friend even advised us that we should let my Uncle be treated at the recovery facilities for addiction but he refused to get rehabilitated.

One day, we just heard the news that my Uncle was in the hospital struggling for survival. He was already on his 50/50 stage but thanked God that he recovered from his near death experience. It was a great lesson on him.

A Simple and Happy People

We Filipinos are recognized to be a simple and happy people. Our cheerful disposition sometimes surprise foreigners since most of them are serious but upon knowing more about the customs here in the Philippines, one would truly understand that cheerfulness is a part our country’s culture.

Family bonding are strong for us Filipinos. If ever there are reasons to celebrate a certain occasion just like my cousin’s wedding as you can see from the photo above where we are all wacky and funny, we would take the opportunity to have reunions and family gatherings. These celebrations include not just the immediate family but other relatives as well, such as uncles, aunties, cousins, nephews, nieces,  grandparents and of course our  ever dearest friends.

I believe we have been nurtured to live life in every minute of it and we are loving it too. We find joy in simple things as long as we have our family and friends with us. Our country is the most calamity prone country in the world, we do have a bad economy and we have the worst politicians but we can still afford to smile and love them.

It is our nature and there is nothing to be gained by being depressed. To us, just being alive is already a blessing. Life is good because we have families and friends and we know how to enjoy life. I also believe it is because of our religious character. We, Filipinos, look to the brighter side of life even though there are many obstacles in the path to God. We believe that God will always guide in the way. Laughter is always been the best medicine as we live a life being a simple and happy people.
